Drive-thru Voting in Comox

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 6, 2013

COMOX – Elections BC is offering a unique voting opportunity at the district electoral office in Comox – drive-thru voting. The Comox district electoral office is located in a former car dealership with drive-thru bays where, for a limited time period, local election officials will be administering curbside voting to voters.

“Ensuring British Columbians have access to voting is of utmost importance,” says Chief Electoral Officer Keith Archer. “This innovative approach to assisting voters is another way Elections BC makes the provincial electoral process effective, efficient and accessible.”

Comox Valley District Electoral Officer Hildy Richardson suggested this approach as an ideal solution for voters unable to leave their car or for voters who are pet owners and do not want to leave their animals unattended. The drive-thru opportunity is available between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 and Monday, May 13, 2013 at 150 Mansfield Drive, Courtenay, B.C.

All B.C. voters can vote at a district electoral office until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013. All B.C. voters can vote at any advance voting place in the province Wednesday, May 8 through Saturday, May 11, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. (local time) and at any general voting place in the province on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. (Pacific time).

All voters must prove their identity and residential address to receive a ballot or to register when voting. A list of acceptable forms of identification is available from Elections BC at elections.bc.ca or 1-800-661-8683.
