Media Advisory: Voting Results at Elections BC Website on May 12

May 8, 2009

VICTORIA - Preliminary voting results will be reported throughout the evening on the Elections BC website after voting ends at 8 p.m. (Pacific time) on General Voting Day, Tuesday, May 12. 

Results will be updated regularly on a web page linked directly to www.elections.bc.ca while the initial count is underway at over 1,700 locations around the province.  

The results for the general election will be listed by electoral district, candidate and political party and will include cumulative provincial totals. 

Results for the referendum on electoral reform will be listed by electoral district, and will also include provincial cumulative totals on the number of votes for the current First-Past-the-Post system and for the proposed single transferable vote system. Results related to the thresholds that must be met for BC-STV to be selected as the electoral system for future elections will also be displayed. 

Final count will be conducted between May 25 and May 27 and final results will be available on the Elections BC website after absentee ballots are counted and final count is concluded.
